Food insecurity causes thousands of children in Edmonton to go to school hungry each day. Children who don’t have a healthy midday meal face barriers to their learning, as well as their mental and physical well-being.
The Motivation:
Lunches for Learning believes every student deserves a healthy start and a chance to succeed.
The Program:
We deliver over 7,000 lunches a year to students who experience food insecurity in Edmonton.
The Process:
We empower students who are inspired to help other students and together with the support of our volunteers, they pack and deliver healthy lunches to kids in need.
The Outcome:
A simple bagged lunch breaks down barriers to learning. The students who help provide lunches are, at an early age, exercizing empathy through discovering the postive impacts of philanthropy in their community.
Broader Impact:
Food insecurity in Edmonton is a growing problem that has profound impacts on students’ health and learning. This social problem can be course-corrected. Our kids are being set up to be the next generation of leaders and engaged citizens. The students who help provide lunches through our program are, at an early age, exercizing empathy through discovering the postive impacts of philanthropy in their community. This simple act of compassion helps shape our future in an optimistic way.
